Dr. LaTanya Tyson's personal philosophy, 'Education is the foundation of success' is a reflection of her inner spirit as a leader who seeks after God's own heart.
Dr. Tyson is a native of Lakeland, Florida. She attended Polk County schools and is a graduate of Kathleen High School in Lakeland, Florida. She received an Associate of Arts and Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Social Sciences from University of South Florida. Dr. Tyson also received a Master of Arts in Adult Education from University of South Florida, and her Doctorate of Philosophy in Higher Education from the University of Phoenix.
For more than a decade, Dr. Tyson professional endeavors have focused on educating underrepresented populations. A former educator in the Polk County public school system, Dr. Tyson began her career as an educator teaching 2nd graders at Combee Elementary School. During her tenure as a public school teacher, she was instrumental in helping struggling students improve reading skills and experience academic success.
It was however upon her transition to private school education at St. Luke's Christian Academy, where Dr. Tyson discovered her true calling in academic administration. During her tenure in private school administration, student enrollment and scholarship assistance for students in need increased markedly. Her experience in secondary and private school education opened the door and laid the foundation for a remarkable career in post-secondary academic administration.
Dr. Tyson began as Carolina Christian College's Academic Project Coordinator in February 2007 and has served as the school's VP of Academics, Chief Operating Officer and now President. As a result of her vision, determination, and commitment; enrollment has increased by more seventy-five percent, the school's Master of Religion program was implemented and has graduated its first class, and the school is experiencing an ever growing community presence as a result of a highly successful marketing campaign. While bringing to fruition a successful strategic vision for Carolina Christian College, Dr. Tyson has maintained a personal connection to each student at the school and has established a supportive, yet rigorous academic environment at Carolina Christian College in 'Preparing real people, for real ministry, in a real world.'
In 2019 Dr. Tyson answered the call of God into the gospel ministry and preach her first message "Dont Give Up!" on May 5th 2019. Her licence was formally issued by her husband and pastor, Bishop T. Tyrone Tyson on June 23rd 2019. She is a well respected preacher,teacher, and educator and has shown proof of her ministrial call.
Dr. Tyson is the wife of Bishop T. Tyrone Tyson and the proud mother of 5 and a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority.
